Moonlights: Inside the Den | A New Moon | Nov 2023

The autumn season has kicked off and the pulse at Fullmoon is running like a pack of wolves on the hunt. Energized by the recent full harvest moon, the ever crispening air and our own momentum, we are sniffing out new opportunities and taking them down triumphantly.

A stylized image of a detailed full moon transitioning into a golden crescent on the right side, with a wolf silhouette howling at the bottom center. Above, text reads "MOONLIGHT'S INSIDE THE DEN," and below the wolf, in orange letters, "A NEW MOON NOV 2023" indicates a date or event. The background is entirely black, highlighting the moon and the wolf figure.

As the company enters into its sixth year of performance, FMDM celebrates our milestone of turning 5 this month! With many moons of the cub phase behind us, we’re maturing into a new animal. And with that growth comes great responsibility.

Yeah, right! More like great ideas and great fun! Even – nay, especially – our founder and CEO, Derek Chew, is spinning in happy circles of anticipation.

“The future of our company is like a blank canvas, waiting for us to paint our exciting ideas, and full of amazing possibilities,” Chew gushes. “We’re all in for a thrilling journey ahead, forging deeper partnerships with our current and future client partners to solve challenges and finding new ways to have fun with our work.”

So let’s start by looking at… well, what you’re looking at!

New Moon, Who Dis? Rebranded website launch!

Like a brave young pup venturing out of the den, we’re excited to present our new website, launched yesterday! *gestures grandly*

Our team has been working hard, and thanks are in order. Our senior copy editor, Emma Faccine, and paid media specialist, Wes Musgrove, have spent months of long hours working under the moonlight to make this possible. Without them, our domain would be an unintelligible digital mess of orange goop and word salad. But because of them, we’re reveling in a delicious feast for the eyes complete with pristine content and artful touches.

With the shedding of the puppy coat of our site, the new den not only has a more refined look but also features a new song of our people: our expanded services!

Sr. Digital Strategist and all-around jill-of-all-trades, Nik Stephney, puts it eloquently,

“We’re thrilled to announce our agency’s expansion into a broader spectrum of services, a significant milestone in our journey. From content creation that tells compelling stories to web development that crafts exceptional digital experiences, and a 360-degree marketing approach that delivers comprehensive solutions – we’re now your go-to destination for all your marketing needs.”

Ahhh! The anticipation is too much. Let’s dive right in!

The Latest Phase: Additional Creative Services Offered

A wolf standing on a path with trees and lights in the background. The text on the poster says "NOW OFFERING CREATIVE SERVICES." The image also includes a camera on a tripod and a background with space nebulae and bubbles coming from the wolf's howl.

That’s right, our growth continues. We’ve evolved our services from pure performance marketing to 360 full service marketing. Sounds awesome, right? But… What does that mean for you?

That means that we now go beyond metrics, Google ads, and performance management. While we still offer the services we always have, we’ve added a few stars to our constellation of offerings. Check them out!

Our 360 elite marketing services!

While we are excited for the revamp overall, our shifted focus to Creative Content development has us most wagging our tails. With a focus on imaginative marketing, letting fun (and some data) guide the way, the pack is embracing human communication on a whole new level!

Broadcast Beams: Backpack Video

When it comes to creative work, we do more than toss you a bone. Our people are passionate about not just our performance – but yours, especially. Our efforts offer complete coverage, from conception to planning to execution, all the way to final distribution.

Take for instance our collaboration with Backpack Marketing, our first scripted video ad venture. Wes Musgrove surfaces once again as a major contributor to this creative project, as he headed the collaboration with Backpack’s CEO Catherine Bennett. From the beginning, Musgrove helped build a wireframe for their video’s flow, worked with Bennet and the FMDM content team to write a script, hopped a sky bus to commence the filming, and did the post-production work.

(Can we even call him a “Paid Media Specialist” anymore? Perhaps a “Wes-of-All-Trades” title works better.)

How It Went

Since I was not on site for this particular project (I’m totally “not” jealous), Wes shared his first-hand experience in this expedition into the wilderness, both metaphorically and literally.

Our first video production adventure began when an “established desire internally to expand” into creative territory surfaced within the pack, howls Wes Musgrove, Paid Media Specialist. He found a videographer willing to take a risk on this moonlight mission and together they developed a reel to highlight the partnership.

Demo reel by Adam Antalek & FMDM’s Wes Musgrove

This demo caught the attention of Backpack Marketing, leading to our first video collaboration!

When it came time to develop the script and storyboard, Musgrove admits he felt as nervous as a lone wolf separated from the pack.

“This was my first time producing a commercial from start to finish. This was also for a professional service (IMO the hardest category to make a video for).” He isn’t wrong!

To conjure up an authentic concept that would connect with the audience, Musgrove “started by watching as many B2B commercials as I could and evaluating what worked for me and what didn’t.”

“It became clear to me very quickly that most B2B content is either really bad or overly produced. This created an interesting challenge.” Musgrove mused, “How can we highlight what backpacking marketing does, while making a real impression without spending millions on celebrity testimonials or boring the audience with a bloated, overproduced mess?”

Answering his own question, he said, “By creating something that had polish but felt more authentic than the average talking head spot.”

Ultimately, the project team devised an outline that highly scripted the intro and outro to anchor the message, while “using antifragile planning to create the body.” Musgrove explains, “We formatted the middle section into 3 separate sections and drafted questions relating to these parts.”

The filming brought exhilarating unpredictability, as the team had no idea what the location or set would be like when they arrived on site. As Musgrove describes, “Just arriving and having to immediately figure out how/where we were going to shoot was exhilarating.”

In post-production, Musgrove “organized and led meetings and acted as a consultant between the videographer and the client.” He summarizes his diverse role in true Wes style: “I was the planner.”

This first video venture signifies “we have the ability to do video!” Musgrove is eager to take on more creative projects, seeing Fullmoon Digital “expanding more and more into the nebulous and uncertain realm of advertising.”

He hopes this stepping stone into uncharted territory will lead to “outcomes that really move the needle.”

And, as author of the blog, I will let you in on a little secret… it already has!

A Growing Pack: Brands Getting in on the Action

Backpack isn’t the only one getting it while the getting’s good. This last quarter, the pack gained more partners! Throw your head back and give a bay for our newest initiates: Ancient Lore, Lighting Reimagined, and TASCO Mountain Bike.

Pack members Topher Campbell (can you believe this guy, having the same last name as yours truly at a seriously minutely staffed company? The nerve!) and Lauren Fredericks join us below to speak about these shiny additions that has us doing the tippy-toe dance of joy.

Meet the Young Bloods

One client that everyone at Fullmoon is excited about is Ancient Lore Village, a fantasy-themed resort in Knoxville. (Be still, my heart!) True to its name, there is lore behind the brand. It’s all about how fantasy characters of different races can live together in harmony.

The first image is of a man with a maroon hat and green sweater outside in nature, pouring a steamy cup of cheer. The second image is a living room showcasing lighting fixtures from Lighting Reimagined. The third image depicts a fantasy setting of Ancient Lore Village. The tags associated with the image include clothing, cartoon, tree, sky, house, outdoor, and person.

Fullmoon is helping them set up an eCommerce shop, where people can buy products centered around the brand. Sr. Copywriter Topher Campbell is thrilled to be part of the project.

“I got into writing because of the opportunity to be creative and tell stories,” he said. “With Ancient Lore Village, I’m not just selling stuff. I’m weaving lore into marketing.”

Campbell hopes this will keep customers engaged with the brand, so they have reason to come back for more, especially when new products come out.

He’s also working with Lighting Reimagined, an ecommerce brand that sells high-end lighting and furniture to elevate people’s living space.

“Lighting Reimagined also presents an interesting storytelling opportunity,” Campbell said. “They have some really cool products, and I want people to imagine wowing their guests at dinner parties.”

Lighting Reimagined puts an extra twinkle in our eye, that’s for sure!

Last but certainly not least, TASCO MTB has joined our growing clientele. For those who like to fly through the mountains on the wings of an off-road bike, this company makes sure each enthusiast has the gear they need on the trail. One of our Paid Media Specialists, Lauren Fredericks, introduces the partnership.

“Working with TASCO MTB has been an exciting endeavor so far. It’s been fun to work with a family operated business who is passionate about both mountain biking and providing top notch products for mountain biking.”

Fredericks continues, “Our team is working closely with TASCO MTB to provide appropriately targeted paid ads across Google and Meta platforms, to increase brand awareness, help bring in quality site traffic, and increase sales and revenue.”

As we only take on 7 or 8 clients a year, you can imagine our selection process is quite discerning. We are extremely excited to bring on these cream-of-the-crop partners as we at Fullmoon continue to grow and mature!

Pawprints in the Sand

We’re making our (eco-friendliest) mark in the digital forest, living our best lives and making our marketing dreams come true.

Wanna make yours come true, too? Because you can by joining the pack. All you have to do is let out an ‘awooo…!’, hit send, and we’ll bark back!
