On February 28th, 2020, Operation Underground Railroad assisted in Operation MANHUNT to find the person responsible for trafficking humans in Saudi Arabia. The mission ended with one person arrested. As a result, forty people were saved and supported. O.U.R., Agape International Missions, and local law enforcement in Phnom Penh worked together seamlessly to bring an end to this trafficking.
This investigation started when a young girl escaped a brothel in Saudi Arabia. She made her way home to Cambodia where she alerted the authorities. The suspect used a school he ran to lure victims in with promises of work in South Korea. It turned out to be all lies. He sent the victims on to Saudi Arabia. Once there the women and girls worked in a brothel. The men and boys trafficked were worked on the street handing fliers out.
Not only were the women subjected to sex trafficking. The men were subject to labor trafficking. Passports were likely taken upon arrival for these people so escape was likely difficult. The survivors must be incredibly brave.
O.U.R. has rescued 3,300 victims and assisted in the arrests of 1,800 traffickers.
Operation Underground Railroad works with law enforcement agencies and experts to bring an end to child and human trafficking worldwide. Their team consists of experts from multiple fields including former CIA operatives. Due to their experience, they can investigate cases, coordinate with law enforcement agencies to complete the rescue legally and safely. Afterward, O.U.R. can help the victim receive aftercare for as long as needed.
Many perpetrators of sex slavery were once victims themselves. Since many of them enter the trade very young, they don’t typically have much education (often not even a high school diploma). Without even that much education, finding jobs outside of sex trafficking can be incredibly difficult.
O.U.R. hopes to one day break the cycle by following the case every step of the way. Operation Underground Railroad was named for the Underground Railroad in the 19th century that led many slaves to freedom. They also provide resources to underfunded law enforcement agencies that can’t provide anti-child exploitation services due to cost.
