Derek Chew’s Leadership Manifesto

Don’t ask about why someone left their previous job, or got fired, or how they got laid off. That’s gossip.

Ask them what they can bring to your table.

Don’t ask how much money they are looking for. That’s unrealistic.

Ask them why they think they are worth what they are interested in making.

Don’t ask why you’re late to the interview. None of your business.

Ask them how their day has been so far.

Don’t ask if are they accountable. That makes you sound elitists.

Ask them how they handled their most recent failure. The devil’s in the details.

Don’t ask if something you say, write, talk about has resonated with people. Even worse, don’t ask if they read your post or watched your video.

Resonating without action and tangible outcomes is just noise, words, and video entertainment. Or just flattering…yuck!

Don’t feel sorry about someone who is looking for work.

Help them find a job. Empathy without action is just a by standing.

Don’t feel obligated to “LIKE” a post.

Express why you like or don’t like it in the comments. Yes, engage!
