Diversify your team if you want to succeed

The strangest thing I’ve seen in my career is the similarities in characteristics and traits in the same team; we call that “fit.”

People hire others who are like them.

When I was hiring for positions at my previous companies, I believed that in order for the team to succeed, we need to hire people who had my same beliefs and opinions – I was wrong.

I was completely misguided for one reason.

When a problem arises, everyone who thinks alike tend to propose similar solutions – they’re starved for fresh ideas.

The mindset of a team should welcome diversity and opposing philosophies. That’s one of the best ways to continue fueling the fire of innovation.

If you want to build a company that can withstand the toughest environment and adversities, then look for people who can complement each other in all aspects.

When you have diversity, the team becomes stronger.
