8. The Story of Dyatlov Pass
The story of 9 Russian hikers who died under suspicious circumstances in the Dyatlov Pass is a terrible story. 9 hikers ascended the mountains in Kholat Syakhl to a place now known as Dyatlov Pass. During the night, something forced all the hikers to flee their tents without preparing for the cold. 6 died of hypothermia, 3 died of trauma. One victim has a fractured skull, two had crushed ribs. One body had no eyes, and one had no tongue. The Soviet authorities deemed it due to a likely avalanche, but was it really?
7. The Bell Witch Haunting
The Bell Witch legend is one American haunting for the centuries. In the early 1800s, John Bell and his family settled in Adams, Tennessee. For thirteen years they lived in peace, but in 1817 they began being haunted. Noises could be heard throughout the house at night, strange animals were sighted around the farm, and they kept it secret for a while until things became intolerable.
During an investigation, the spirit supposedly called itself Kate Batt’s (a neighbor) witch, and from then on she became known as the Bell’s Witch, and it was known as the Bell’s Witch haunting.
Kate tormented the family, and eventually went on to take credit for the death of John Bell.
6. Fullmoon Favorite: The Curse of La Llorona
The legend of La Llorona is a story that still haunts many children, particularly in the Southwest United States and Mexico, to this day. La Llorona was a beautiful young woman who married the love of her life, a handsome man who had lots of riches and was good to her until he wasn’t.
After she had two beautiful kids, she learned her husband was cheating on her and fell for a younger, prettier woman. In a fit of rage, La Llorona killed their children, whom the man loved very much.
After realizing what she had done, she drowned herself in the river too. Now, when children cry or pout, they are warned that La Llorona will get them.
5. Bloody Mary
Light a candle in your bathroom and turn the lights out. Repeat “Bloody Mary” into the mirror 3 times. The legend says that a young woman will appear, sometimes she holds a dead baby, other times she comes with the promise of killing you or yours. Story has it she is actually Mary Worth. A witch, once she was discovered by her town, the villagers set upon her, shot her, and burned her at the stake.
As she died, she cursed the town and told them if they ever said her name in a mirror she would come back to haunt them.

4. The Blair Witch
Created for a horror film, the legend goes that Elly Kedward was executed in 1785 for witchcraft. Ever since, residents of Blair, Maryland (the name of Burkittsville, Maryland) go missing and turn up dead, it is caused by him. The tales follow students who are there to video tape their findings in the Black Hills forest.

The legend of Sleepy Hollow is the story by Washington Irving about a headless horseman on a black horse who torments the town of Sleepy Hollow around this time of year. Perfect for creeping people out around a fire!

Lots of people love the story about lovebirds being terrorized around Halloween.
One dark night a couple goes on a date. They get in a car and after dinner, go to the town’s local make-out spot. The girl hears something outside, and after some spooky noises and sights, the couple gets home safely…but not before discovering a hook hanging off the door of their car!
1. The creepy or killer clown
Originally just a creepy story about a clown showing up around towns acting all creepy, the story changed after John Wayne Gacy, a party clown, was found to be murdering young boys. There is also the creepy clowns that were spotted all over the United States over the last few years terrorizing people.
