The benefits of coaching really are endless: an invaluable edge to thrive in every way.

Yep, even without a friendly, acquiescing bottle goblin. ?

Why EVERY professional needs a coaching: a "totally unbiased" opinion.

From the Horse’s Mouth

So you thought you’d come get an unbiased opinion? HA! Okay, the jig is up… I used to be a wellness coach. Well, technically, I am still certified, it’s just that my career has kinda taken a sharp left at Albuquerque.

So, got ya! But don’t let my bias dissuade you.

With my career shift somewhat forced upon me during the Great Layoffs of 2022, I went from a full-time health and wellness coach to unemployed to a PT copywriter to FT long-form content creation, which brings us to today, with me composing pertinent and interesting blog content crafted – just for you!

But I didn’t get here alone. Despite my certifications and knowledge, that roller coaster sent me for a ride. I wish I could stand here and tell you I was able to navigate it all gracefully and like a pro. Let’s all laugh out loud together, shall we?

I needed more than positive platitudes or healthy habits to get me through. That’s right – this coach (me) needed support, too.

Because of my job and network, I recognize I am lucky to be in a community of other like-minded folks who have dedicated themselves to their passion for creating a healthier world for anyone and everyone. And let me tell you, these people, and particularly my own coach, helped me get through: joblessness, temporary homelessness, and uncertain future.

Stepping back, being a coach has changed the trajectory of my life. And I don’t even mean career-wise, I mean, ME-wise. I understand the way people tick, the way I tick, and how hard we make life for ourselves.

Be it nature, nurture, social norms, personal traumas and insecurities, cultural or self-imposed expectations, environmental factors, or any other number of contributors, we humans tend to get bogged down by muck so much that by the time we see it, it has collected to the point of casting an intimidatingly thick layer on our personas it’s easy to think,

“This is just how I am.”

But what if all you needed was a missing tool? A resource you could use to chip off that encasing layer of gunk?

A coach is someone who hands you a chisel. Not just any chisel, though – too sharp and hard to wield, and you’ll hurt yourself. Too dull and flat, all your hard work may pay off eventually, but you will be worn out along the way.

No, a coach has the perspective to look around, ask the right questions, and get you access to a tool that’s made to fit your hand, have just the right edge, and can help you strategize where to start and how for the maximum benefit.

If “work smarter, not harder” is your goal, they can help you strategize on how to do so instead of just wishing or feeling your way through. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of strategy they can map out with you.

And in the world of work where being a professional means being and doing an inhuman amount of things, that burden can cause a lot of overwhelm and stress.

Stress, the Silent Killer…?

The thing about stress is that everybody has it, there’s no question. It’s one of the little parting gifts we take home from the hospital when we’re born as a little prize for being human. And stress is bad… right?

Actually, it depends.

This Ted Talk from Kelly McGonigal explains how a (relatively) simple shift in perspective can change something from a top killer to an undeniable strength. Just watch the next 2 minutes of her talk:

In essence: Stress is harmful, but only if you believe it is harmful. If you believe it belongs and can help you, it has the opposite biological and mental effects.

This is how coaching works. Health coaching, wellbeing coaching, life coaching – whatever you want to call it – is a catalyst for perspective change, which leads to belief change, which leads to behavior change, which leads to life change.

Coaches: The Stress Savants

No matter what life stage you’re at or profession you’ve chosen, the world we live in means it’s hard to keep up with everything. Work, family, and personal life are the balls we juggle, with more being tossed in the rotation whether we like it or not.

And yet, we’re often inundated with messages of expectation especially in the world of work, driven by an inane need to succeed over all… or if not, at least to be a flawless productivity machine. Therein lies the problem: we are NOT robots!

Now that we’ve finally admitted our non-mechanical nature, we can get real with ourselves. By now it should be clear that working with a coach can seriously change your life game. But let’s get specific.

  • Balance is everything. Coaches help you create systems for harmonizing the different spheres of life.
  • You set the destination, they navigate. Coaches don’t tell you what goals to pick, but they fully support you in making them happen.
  • Feeling stuck or lost? Coaches get you unstuck and back on your unique path, guiding you to positive changes and breakthroughs.
  • A worthwhile investment. Coaches give you the personalized fuel and flight plan to reach new heights in your goals and life vision.

Although getting things on track sure makes life easier, that doesn’t mean it’s a quick fix. If you want that, go grab some duct tape. We’re here for the art of kintsugi.

Kintsugi: Translating to “golden joinery,” the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold dates back to the 15th century. The technique involves gluing broken pieces back together with a lacquer and painting the seams with gold or silver powder. The gold seams highlight the imperfections caused by the breakage and strengthen the repaired object.

As a metaphor for life, Kintsugi teaches us to see the broken parts of ourselves and others as an opportunity to add strength, beauty, and character.

Can a Coach Help Professionals?

I could just say yes and move on, but you deserve more! So: from young professionals to retirees, students to entrepreneurs, almost everyone can benefit from the perks of working with a coach.

Here’s a little taste of how:

  • Forget wandering aimlessly. Coaches give you a roadmap to focus your efforts and achieve your goals.
  • Self-discovery gets real. Introspection goes deeper to unpack beliefs, patterns and unlock growth.
  • Accountability partners make sure intentions become actions. Every step is aligned with your desired end.
  • Strengths become superpowers while weaknesses morph into opportunities for improvement.
  • Communication levels up resulting in way better relationships all around.
  • Fulfillment, purpose, and joy are natural byproducts of alignment. Coaches help ensure actions align with your truth.

So if the current state of your life is leaving you wanting, a coach can help you transform it.

How Do Coaches Help in Practice?

This stress-induced haze keeps us from seeing our best path forward. However, coaches shine a light on those shadowy thoughts creeping around in the dark, cobwebbed corners of our minds. Sometimes, we don’t even realize those intruders are there until someone illuminates them! With expert questions and guidance, they help you unpack whatever’s holding you back. The baggage, the barriers, the gunk – they chip away at it to unearth the real you.

“This work is not to construct a new person – it is to mindfully excavate your true self that exists simply buried under circumstance. You are already whole!” — Coach Nissa Campbell

Accountability is huge, too. Coaches make sure you’re walking the walk, not just talking the talk when it comes to the goals and changes you want to make. They’re your personal cheerleader, keeping you motivated and on track. Consider them your mental spring cleaning crew, hiking guide as you climb Mt. Mind, and biggest fan all rolled into one.

So if you’re feeling off track in any area of life, let a coach help you get back in your lane and get cruising. You deserve it.

Why Get Started with a Coach Today?

“Every professional needs a coach when they’re ready for growth and development (which isn’t all the time! Sometimes we just need to rest and stay the course). I’m also being coached and have been finding it so helpful to get myself unstuck from places that I can’t seem to get unstuck from myself!”— Coach Julie Stiles

The Rising Need for Life Coaching Now More than Ever

There’s no denying it – life is getting more complex by the minute. And while we’re all out here just doing our best, we could use some skilled support.

Here’s why now, more than ever, having a professional guide can be game changing:

Our beliefs literally create our reality. If you think you don’t deserve to succeed, you won’t. Coaches reshape limiting beliefs into empowering ones so you can consciously design your dream life.

Our thoughts drive our actions. But most of our thinking happens on autopilot, influenced by engrained negative thought patterns. Coaches bring awareness to self-sabotaging thoughts so you can get unstuck.

Emotions feel overwhelming, but they’re just energy we can learn to channel. Coaches teach you to understand your emotions so they serve you, not squash you.

Self-criticism is an epidemic, but self-compassion changes everything. Coaches cultivate radical self-acceptance so you can extend compassion to others as well.

See the theme here? A wellbeing or life coach holds up a mirror so you can see yourself clearly so you can create the reality and life you want. No more playing small or staying stuck. Customized support can help us live as our truest, best selves.

Doesn’t that sound like exactly what you need to start living your big, beautiful, best life?

How Coaching Helps Professionals: A Rundown

“Coaches can help with career choices, job searches, health, specific wellness goals like better sleep, lose weight, reduce stress, manage time better, get that promotion and so much more.

Coaching is not coddling, we do not do the work for our clients, they have to show up, set the goals, and then they DO the steps to achieve them.”— Coach Jalene Szuba

Beyond core job skills, soft skills add tremendous value. Coaches work on honing skills like public speaking, managing conflict, leadership abilities, and communication to unlock professional growth opportunities. (Am I saying having one will get you a raise? Well, let’s just say, I’m not NOT saying that!)

The coaching process creates space for consistent skill development:

  1. Self-awareness Amplified: Unravel your inner workings, motivations, and aspirations.
  2. Perspective and Direction Gained: Get a bird’s eye view of career and life direction to align actions with a clarified sense of purpose.
  3. Communication Skills Boosted: Enhance interactions in personal and professional spheres.
  4. Decision-making Sharpened: Navigate choices with clarity and confidence.
  5. Drive and Focus Elevated: Remain aligned with your goals and aspirations.
  6. Relationships Strengthened: Build deeper and more meaningful connections.
  7. Productivity Maximization: Achieve more with efficiency.
  8. Stress and Anxiety Minimized: Harness tranquility in the chaos.
  9. Confidence and Self-Esteem Augmented: Stand tall in your unique identity.
  10. Promote Work/Life Balance: Burnout is real. So are healthy boundaries.
  11. Overcome Obstacles and Limiting Beliefs: Develop the courage to step outside comfort zones and pursue bold goals, kicking imposter syndrome, analysis paralysis, and perfectionism to the curb.

I know, I know. Unreal, right? These benefits seem almost magical! Yet the proof lies in client results.

The Proof is in the Coaching

At this point, I’ve probably made it abundantly clear that I’m a big-time coaching fan girl. But don’t just take my word for it. Hear selections from folks who have been there, done that:

“I started working with Julie at a time when life seemed really hard. I was feeling so adrift and confused, and so tired of having nothing solid to hold on to.

“Looking back, I experienced a sea [of] change across the months I worked with Julie. I had new ground underneath me. I also magically came up with new and different ideas and strategies. I’d known already that I needed to restructure my (self-employed) work life dramatically but hadn’t been able to imagine how.

“Now, I feel like I’ve come out the other side of the crucible. My work is going well. I now feel stronger and more stable overall. Most importantly, I feel like I can take care of myself (in ways that work!) and build a life that makes me feel like me.”

~ Kyra Freestar

“Before working with Jalene, I struggled to manage my stress levels, anxiety and with allowing myself to feel at ease during down time.

“I had tried and failed multiple times at coming up with a self-care program that I could maintain and that worked with my busy life. She helped me identify the barriers I was encountering and move past them with sustainable practices.

“She helped me reach a point where I feel balanced in my life, which I was not able to accomplish on my own.”

~ Chrissy Oliveri
